PHD Position in the Field of Wireless Protocol Design

The Chair of Real-Time Computer Systems (RCS) of the Technical University of Munich is inviting applications for a PHD position in the field of wireless protocol analysis and design.

Assignment

Within the last decade, networks which do not require any fixed infrastructure (mobile ad-hoc networks, MANETS) have become widespread. Before two devices in a MANET can start communicating, they have to discover their mutual existence and synchronize their clocks using a procedure called neighbor discovery. Since all participants of a MANET are powered by batteries, power-efficient neighbor discovery is a crucial requirement. The purpose of the offered PHD position is to identify, analyze, design and implement novel protocols with increased performances.

Requirement Profile

Applicants should hold a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. In addition, applicants should be willing to work in team on mathematical and theoretical problems, as well as on practical implementations. Applications should contain: A curriculum vita, Bachelor and Master transcripts (including a detailed list of classes and grades obtained). Electronic applications via e-mail are welcome. Good knowledge of the German language is appreciated.

Our Offer

The employment is in accordance with TV-L (German Salary Grade 100% TV-L E13). The Chair of Real-Time Computer Systems is active in various aspects of real-time and embedded systems design and does cutting edge research in this area, which is demonstrated by high-quality publications and multiple awards. Previous work in the topics related to this PHD position already led to publications in very competitive forums, such as IEEE INFOCOM, ACM/IEEE IPSN and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC). The group offers a friendly and cooperative working atmosphere and collaborates internationally with several well-known research groups. The PHD will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Samarjit Chakraborty.
